r.i.p., submuff?

i think i need a better name than dj subterranean muffin for my stuff. it's such a cheesy moniker. i can't even bear to say it out loud.

unless there is a massive response to this post in favor of me keeping the name, i think it's time to lay dj subterranean muffin to rest.

the only problem is i can't think of a new name. i don't want it to be too serious because the music is far from serious, but i also don't want it to be too cheesy.

hmmm.

either way, there should be new music for y'all to eargander upon soon.

beetah

i like mark's theory on the motivation behind the title and cover art of from heroes to zeros (see his comment to my previous post).

i interpreted the album title as a tongue in cheek reference to the idea that the band has yet to deliver commercially on the promise of its first three e.p.'s.

here's a beta band mix i made:

1. rhododendron
2. inner meet me
3. round the bend
4. squares
5. she's the one
6. broke
7. dog's got a bone
8. easy
9. to you alone
10. out-side
11. quiet
12. lion thief
13. it's over
14. the cow's wrong

let me know if you want a copy.

just like yestereday, i'll never feel this way again

i've listened to the beta band's heroes to zeros a half a dozen times now. the first few times i was underwhelmed. but this last time, the album clicked hard. it's got everything i'd want in a beta band album. there are news sounds to be heard each time it gets played and that's what i love about the beta band. this album makes it impossible for me to rank their albums. but make no mistakes, people: i've already heard my favorite 2004 album.

"boston sucks!"

whenever i make a mix, i'm never completely happy with it. there's usually a song or two that doesn't fit well upon listening. however, i'm really liking toilet papered neighbors. the songs go well together and it has a clear beginning, middle, and end. i didn't make it with any particular person in mind but i honestly think anyone would enjoy it. maybe i'm fooling myself. why do i even care? to be completely honest, i wish i was in a band making albums instead of being the loser that i am making mixes for people who probably listen to them twice max. what a useless talent i have, if it's a talent at all.

in new york, the people behind the counters ask "to stay or to go?" when i order my foodstuffs. where i came from, it was always "for here or to go?" also, after the lottery numbers pop out of their tube each night in their random order, the lottery lady reads them again for the benefit of the viewer, which is normal. what isn't normal is that she reads them out of order again. where i come from, the numbers are summarized in ascending order before the lottery lady says goodnight.

yesterday i had an interview at 6:30 pm. it's a ten minute walk to my car and i didn't want to make it in my suit so i decided to go get my car then get ready for the interview. this meant i was to make an unshowered car jaunt. since my hair was unruly, i put my red sox hat on before i left the crib. i always feel a little self-aware when i'm sporting that hat down here. it just so happened that i was making this walk right at the time school got out for the little long islanders. as i walked in front of my new favorite corner store, i passed two teenage boys on low rider bicycles. once they were behind me, they yelled "boston sucks!" i couldn't help but smile for the rest of my walk.

speaking of the red sox, what a comeback tonight. 5 runs in the final two innings for a 7-6 win. i really wish i could've watched it. i'm sure it would've been a lot more exciting than the updated-every-30-seconds yahoo box score i was forced to use to keep in the loop.

homesick? check.

albums revisited

ever pull out a cd you haven't heard in quite a while and find yourself liking it more than you did when you last listened? strange how that happens. today, the chemical brothers' come with us is kicking my ass. when it was released 28 months ago, i remember being underwhelmed. i wonder what has changed in those 28 months.

a good portion of my collection is winking at me as i type, asking to be revisited. i shall do my best to accomodate them seeing as how i have no job and no money to buy new cds.

let's hope there are a few more come with us-es to be discovered.
