head shakes

i guess no one figured out that i was waiting for a 3rd comment on the previous post before i updated this monstrosity. i only figured it out for myself today.

i grabbed some pizza for lunch today. amazing, right? wait, there's more. on the way back into the building, i catch someone out of the corner of my right eyeball walking behind me. now, my mother brought me up right, so i stop to hold the door for this person. since she's a bit behind me, i end up holding it for a few seconds before she finally reaches me. i bet you can guess where i'm going next. yup, not a peep out of her. she saw me standing there for no other reason than to hold the door open for her and...nothing. i wanted to punch her in the face. but instead, i shook my head as she walked behind me. yup, i got so mad that i... shook... my... head.

the second car on the train this morning had no air conditioning (the horror!). fortunately, my car was not the second. halfway to penn station, i see the ticket lady leading a small family to the back of the car, where i am sitting. she stops at the end of my row and although i have my headphones on, i'm smart enough to realize that she's leading this family to cooler pastures and those pastures include the seat between me and windowman/newsday sports section fanatic. i get up and let the dad claim the seat. the wife takes the one seat behind me and her daughter takes her lap. a few minutes before we arrive at penn, i remove my headphones to discover the woman LOUDLY reading to her daughter. a few seconds later, i determine that she's reading charlie and the chocolate factory. i enjoy a good story as much as the next guy and i'm all for engaging your children, but this seemed rather rude to me. more importantly, it explains why people kept turning around to glare at me after the family found their cool seats. you see, my train peeps were actually glaringing behind me. phew.
