lately,
i find myself getting the urge
to smash things into my face.
not my face into things.
things into my face.
like a glass.
a magazine.
a mouse.
a bowl.
things like that.
not quite sure
where it comes from.

me too.

1 - hatedhatedhated these guys at first and wouldn't say i'm their biggest fan now. however, from what i've read about them, the singer/guitarist is actually crazy and his scream eventually won me over. only heard clips of this song but was intrigued enough to spend $0.99 to hear the rest years later.

2 - the first song of theirs i heard. took about 189 listens but i finally came around. not sure that's ever happened to me before.

3 - along with radiohead, yeah yeah yeahs, mf doom, and stephen mason, i need to hear everything these guys release.

4 - eventually decided that the cellphone commercial didn't ruin all of this song.

5 - first heard this guy on a gang starr album. remember seeing him in a video all camo-ed out years later. vaguely remember the song being awesome. if this was it, the awesomeness has been confirmed. listened to this so loudly on the way to work this morning that my sideview mirror made the cars behind me dance.

6 - keith bought this album when we were roommates at umass and this song has been hanging out in my head since.

7 - my ipod had met joy divison. my ipod had met this song. but my ipod had not been introduced to their intersection until now.

8 - i remember this as one of those weird ass early mtv videos. catchy, too.

9 - i always turn this up when i hear it on the radio. i'm actually kind of glad i remembered it when i was looking for songs. love the shit out of that fuzzy-as-fuck guitar so much that i hardly notice jesus in the lyrics.

10 - someone on a webboard mentioned how much he loved this song while i was keeping my out for shit.

11 - always turn this one up, too. sorry, drew.

12 - it may be hard to believe, but itunes isn't the best place to find the slammin'est u-god jams. found this instead. not bad.

13 - surprised i never bought this in college knowing my often regrettable purchasing decisions back then. reminds me of umass and martha, more specifically.

14 - khoa. khoa. khoa. i'll never forget him writing "don't delay act now supplies running out" in the frost on the windows of martha's ford (anal)probe after the orchard hill ball or whatever it was called. i hope to never forget the image of him dancing to this.

15 - i will not apologize for this.

16 - i believe this was on the soundtrack to the suckier or suckiest of the batman movies. not sure why christine owned it but i remember borrowing it and thinking "these are those jelly guys." what's weird is that my favorite part comes over two minutes into the song (what amounts to the beginning of the end, i guess). i'm not sure i give songs that long these days. i guess it's good i heard it back then and remembered it.

fives

he polished off the bowl and reminded himself that his laundry waited down the block. he didn't want his shirts to wrinkle (he sucked at ironing and dreaded the thought), so out the door and down the steps he went. the combination sunshinecoldbreeze felt even better on his face this time. "relax. nothing to worry about. no one can tell. watchout, corner," he thought as he turned onto merrick.

he glided, head down, to the laundromat. the moment his driers became visible, he heard the bottom one beep its cycle finished. six seconds later, the top joined him. the laundro-lady working a few driers down turned and said "hey! perfect timing." he smiled, replying "yeah. not bad, huh?"

the most amazing high-five he had ever fived high followed.

split seconds

do you ever get the feeling that you're the coolest person you know? yeah, me neither. no, but seriously. sometimes i actually do get that feeling which is strange because if you know me at all...yeah, not a big fan. luckily, the feeling lasts for a split second and doesn't come back for eons.

when do you get that feeling? the last time i had it was probably when i peeked at the toilet before i flushed this afternoon. just kidding. i didn't flush.

wait. it was while headphonedancing to this album just a few minutes ago. listening to it for the first time in 42.57 months i wondered why i never appreciated it as much as i should have and probably now do.

i'd post one of its amazing songs but that would be a waste of time now, wouldn't it?

on the lifted side

as i sat in my car waiting for kim to return to the parking lot, i found myself hoping it would be at least 4 minutes before the faint shine of her headlights gave away her arrival. i wanted to lean back into my headrest and take in "dudley" by the yeah yeah yeahs (another one that gets to me in that way). such an awesome song.

oh shit

i think i just figured out how to compress a bunch of files into one tidy little package of bytes or whatever. this means that i can now post mixes at a time instead of songs. but i'm only going to go through the trouble if anyone has actually ever downloaded any of the songs i have posted up to this point. so, have you?
