ice cream railroad.
i was standing one the porch tonight when i heard the faint sound of an ice cream truck off in the distance. one of the things that sticks out to me about first moving to new york was how often i heard ice cream trucks. it seemed like there were at least 4-5 times as many ice cream trucks here than there were back home. maybe it only felt like that because it took me four months to find my first job. all i know is that the mr. softee song is definitely one of the tracks on the steve in new york soundtrack: volume 1.
somehow i began to think back to the time i spent working at aig in new york city (my second ny job). i remember riding home on the long island railroad quite often mentally exhausted. the first time i noticed how comforting it felt to hear the train computer voice announce "the next station is...lynbrook" felt like an epiphany to me.
lynbrook meant home.
