"the pebbles forgive me. the trees forgive me. so why can't you forgive me?"

i've been reading a lot of good things about juno, a soon-to-be-released movie featuring micheal cera and a bunch of other people not quite as supercool as him. i'm very excited to see it although it already makes me sad for a couple of reasons.

the first and less impactful reason is that i get the sense that juno will be a limited release and limited releases remind me of the malverne theater that specialized in showing them. being a short car ride away from such a theater is a luxury that i definitely miss now. :(

the second and more important reason is that juno prominently features music by the moldy peaches. i haven't thought about the moldy peaches in a while as they went on indefinite hiatus a few years ago but their music has resurfaced in this movie. my favorite song of theirs, "anyone else but you," will play an important role in what sounds like an amazing scene. on top of that, kimya and adam have reunited to play two shows (and counting?) to celebrate the release of the movie.

i discovered the moldy peaches while i was living in canton during the period between newton and ashland, when kim and i were becoming closer and closer. at the same time, i was getting to know her friend gina through emails and overlapping weekend visits to kim's apartment in brighton (or was it allston? - i never remember the difference between those two). since i loved to share new music discoveries, all three of us fell in love with the moldy peaches together. i remember singing along to them at kim's apartment when we introduced their cd to kim's roommate, laura (and i rarely sing along to anything in the company of others). i remember gina accompanying kim and i on our first visit to the apartment in ashland and listening to them on the ride. i remember seeing them at the middle east with kim and gina and how, on the way home, we couldn't stop talking about how much fun we had.

there was something juvenile yet undeniably tender about the moldy peaches. the same could probably be said about my relationships with both kim and gina.

it's funny how we (the three of us plus the music) all came together at the same time.

it's sad that the moldy peaches are the only ones reuniting.
