i was looking through some pretty old emails tonight and found one in which i listed the cd's that were on my desk in newton at the time.
"...they are in two piles, one has 2 more in it than the
other. so if the bigger pile just lent the smaller 1 a
single friend, they'd be even (in height, some are
double cd's). oh well, here goes:
gay dad: leisure noise
john lennon: plastic ono band
the beatles: sgt pepper
syd barrett: the madcap laughs
fiona apple: tidal
rolling stones: beggars banquet
mogwai: come on die young
rem: up
ani difranco: to the teeth
massive attack: blue lines
neutral milk hotel: in the aeroplane over the sea
the roots: the roots come alive
fiona apple: when the pawn...
ben harper: live tracks
chemical brothers: augmented
magnolia: soundtrack
the beatles: 1962-1966
clinton: disco and the halfway to discontent
pink floyd: london 66-67
pink floyd: a saucerful of secrets
nine inch nails: the fragile
marilyn manson: the last tour on earth
the byrds: greatest hits
syd barrett: barrett
pink floyd: the piper at the gates of dawn
miles davis: bitches brew
handsome boy modeling school: so, how's your girl?"
some of these emails are cringeworthy. i guess i didn't handle my post-college shock very well. wink, wink.
i miss everyone so much. i really do. i cannot emphasize that enough.

could the people who wanted a copy of my cd please provide me with their addresses? although i may have been to your crib a few times, i never paid enough attention to exact criblocations.
i wanna rock a party, man. seriously. i wanna get together with my peeps and play awesome songs and eat awesome foods and drink awesome drinks and laugh awesome laughs. so who's throwing the party and when is it? hurry up, i'm dying. who's with me?
after much contemplation, kim got a hairchop. the result is awesome. she looks great.
kim and i have played some basketball recently. there's a park down the street where we go shoot around before the sun sets. lots and lots of fun. my shot has returned. i was a free throw making machine on sunday. i wanna play a game though. you know, like guarding someone and making sweet passes and grabbing rebounds and stuff like that. it's been too long.
kim kicked the asses of gina and i at mini-golf on sunday. she won by 8 shots! we found an awesome course by the water (i do live on an island, people). gina hung close and was leading by 2 after eleven holes, but then kim buried her. i wasn't a factor at all. i did manage to come in second somehow. the funny thing is i was talking trash the whole ride to the course. next time, i won't make that mistake :)
so i got a cord that goes from my walkman into my computer and it allows me to transfer tapes to cd. this means all the old crotchbats songs are now on my computer. future mix cd's and their recipients have been warned.
i can't stop listening to the new fiona apple track, "extraordinary machine." it leaked this week and is the title track of her latest album. the music is amazing. you can tell it's jon brion, the dude who did the soundtracks for "punch-drunk love" and "magnolia." it goes perfectly with fiona's voice. unfortunately, word on the net is that sony has shelved extraordinary machine because it doesn't know how to market the album. they gotta be nuts. this song is awesome and if it's indicative of the rest of the album, what a huge mistake. maybe the lack of piano scared them.

bottom row
yesterday i decided that it'd be a fun exercise to pull cd's from the bottom row of cdrack1 and listen to them. see, the bottom row is where i put the stuff that i probably haven't listened to in years^x (less bending over that way). maaaa.
first up was white pony by the deftones. i bought this cd because every time "change (in the house of flies)" came on the radio, i'd blast the poop right out of it by way of my volume knob. god, i love that song more than my left nostril. the cd got banished to the bottom row, however, because the rest of it never really did anything for me. i enjoyed it more this time around. sadly, i didn't enjoy it enough to raise it any rows once the listening ended.
next up was pocket full of kryptonite by the spin doctors. let me just say that i need to listen to this cd at least twice as often as i have been. the singles, well everybody knows how fun those are. but the rest of the cd is also surprisingly yay. in case you're concerned, i'm not feverish or in danger of passing out right now. i know what i'm writing and i stand by it - not a bad cd at all.
last came countdown to extinction by megadeth. i'm not sure how many people know this, but for a good spell in high school, i was a megadethhead. i started with this cd (thanks mtv) and worked my way backwards through their catalogue. i was banging my head pretty hardcore to this yesterday, but i only made it halfway through. maybe that says more about my stamina than the likeability of the album. not sure.
last night i watched ghost world for the second time. kim was at class and i was bored and wanted to do something that'd take up some time. the first time i saw it was right when it came out on dvd and i liked it easily twice as much this time. scarlett johansson's character is the best. or maybe scarlett's just the best. that may be it.

cd. 15 tracks. 32 minutes. a mix of cubase stuff and turntable stuff (sometimes within the same song). thanks to adam s. for his cubase assistance. thanks to johnnie for giving me all those crazy records this past christmas. thanks to reed for telling the 36 revolutions story back in 1999 during our WOCH broadcast with brett and marto.
these songs barely scratch the surface of what i want to do with the tools at my disposal. there's still so much about cubase that remains a mystery to me. and i miss my turntables.
if anyone wants a copy, you know the drill.
